1 Introduction

1.1 Scope

This document is intended to act as a guide to configuring hosts for use with the

Emulex LP9002 host bus adapters on the Sun Solaris 2.6, 7 and 8 platforms. Both the

LP9002S-E, SBus, and the LP9002L-E, PCI, HBAs will be covered with differences

highlighted where they occur. This document will not describe how to configure

Veritas Volume Manager nor Solstice Disk Suite but will cover the creation of Solaris

device special files. This document will be tailored towards configuring hosts for an

EMC Symmetrix environment and options will be given for hosts that are and are not

running EMC PowerPath.

1.2 Intended Audience

The intended audience for this document is Deutsche Bank System Administrators,

members of the Deutsch Bank Storage Team and anyone else who may be configuring

and/or providing support to others who are configuring the Emulex LP9002 series of

HBAs on the Sun Solaris platform. It is critical that anyone attempting to undertake the

installation and configuration of the Emulex HBA packages understands the issues

related to modifying Solaris configuration files and the installation and removal of

packages.
